Recently our Las Bambas operation released its 2018 Sustainability Report, detailing its social and performance throughout the year.
Key highlights in the report include:
- 8,706 direct and indirect jobs created by the operation, with 18% of employees from the local region
- More than 16 million hours worked during 2018, with a total recordable injury frequency (TRIF) of 0.47 per million hours worked
- Implementation of the ‘Nos Cuidamos’ (We Care For One Another) safety campaign, aimed at promoting safety as an essential value amongst all employees and contractors
- US$36.4 million spent on local procurement during the year
- US$15.3 million invested in social projects aligned with the United Nations first six Sustainable Development Goals
- More than US$240 million in royalties generated by Las Bambas from 2016 to June 2019
- 17% reduction in the poverty rate in Apurimac between 2012 and 2017
- 71% less water withdrawn from rivers and creeks in 2018 compared to 2017
