In mid-2016 MMG Kinsevere employees helped celebrate the inauguration of a new school in Denis village, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Working with three communities close to the Kinsevere mine, we produced more than 35,000 bricks to build the school.

The community’s contribution and participation in this project were substantial. The traditional chief of Denis village donated a two-hectare plot of land. Six community members were hired and trained as masons during the construction. The DRC national education department also built an extra toilet block.

In the first year, 420 students attended. This is the first time Kinsevere has implemented a community project with involvement from so many stakeholders.

The original village school was made of straw and children used bricks as seats. Now, the village children can enjoy a better learning environment. This is a wonderful result for the community.
