MMG Dugald River Mine General Manager, Tim Akroyd, and SHEC Superintendent, Martin Brownlee, attended an impromptu dinner with Prime Minister, the Hon. Scott Morrison, when he visited Cloncurry on Tuesday 19th January. The dinner was also attended by a number of other federal ministers and mayors from the North-West mineral province.
“The visit was a great opportunity to discuss topics relevant to the industry,” said Martin Brownlee, SHEC Superintendent.
“Prime Minister Scott Morrison thanked the mining companies in the North West province for the way they worked together throughout the COVID-19 response, supporting and helping in efforts to protect the region from the pandemic.”
The Prime Minister announced the Government’s support for CopperString 2.0 with an additional $11 million funding to further progress the energy project to Final Investment Decision stage. CopperString 2.0 will create additional regional jobs, industry development and provide affordable reliable power for families, businesses and local communities from Townsville to Mount Isa.
