Tree planting is one of the simplest and most effective ways of restoring natural habitat.

Patrick Nkulu, Kinsevere’s Deputy General Manager Operations and Dexiao Qi, Deputy General Manager Finance & Business, recently rolled up their sleeves to help with the reforestation campaign – ‘Restoring Trees and Forests for Wellness.’ Patrick invited each Kinsevere mine employee to personally plant a tree on site.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) celebrates Tree Day every year on 5 December. Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager Lyse Hamisi, said that the team planted more than 80,000 trees for the 2021-2022 campaign with five different tree species. The launch of this campaign took place on an area spanning 0.15 hectares. Other sites will be selected to contribute to the restoration of forests at the mine site and nearby communities.

Kinsevere mine also joined with community members, accompanying representatives from the local administrative Bukanda sector, in the Haut-Katanga province to celebrate National Tree Day. Over 15,000 seedlings, including 4,000 for the tree planting event and 3,500 for local school yards are delivered daily to communities. Kinsevere is maximising the revegetation process by inviting each school child to plant a tree.

Fifteen different tree species are distributed every day to contribute to the restoration of forests at the mine site and in neighbouring communities.

Kinsevere acknowledges that mining activities impact on the ecosystem. Employees and management are committed to revegetation and reforestation measures.
