Sharing our tools for success

At MMG we are committed to building a culture that is based on high-performing and engaged teams. To help us achieve this goal we developed the Success Through Every Person (STEP) program.

The STEP program is designed to enhance the effectiveness of teams and the way we work, to help us realise our vision, mission and objectives. The program is designed to show that every person at MMG has an important role in safely and effectively delivering tasks, contributing to our strategic plan and making MMG a successful and rewarding place to work and thrive.

MMG understands that to deliver on our strategic plans, we need to have the right:

  1. Structure and alignment of roles;
  2. Systems and processes to help us do our jobs;
  3. People and capabilities who will help us deliver on tasks; and
  4. Culture which supports the way we work and encourages everyone to succeed.

These four pillars form the basis of our STEP program and are embedded by learning a series of tools which give us all a common MMG language to ensure that everyone is:

  • Clear on what any tasks requires
  • Able to identify critical issues and develop solutions
  • Awareness of how diversity contributes to high performing teams.

MMG is committed to sharing the success of this course with our partners. Earlier this month, our Group Manager Talent, Rob Papworth and Superintendent Remuneration and Benefits, Godfrey Gao, represented MMG in Beijing at the head office of China Minmetals Corporation (CMC) and its subsidiary and our majority shareholder, China Minmetals Nonferrous Metals (CMN).

During the visit, Godfrey delivered the MMG STEP Program to groups of CMN employees.  Godfrey was able to draw upon his teaching skills to lead the classes through the two day programme, after having translated our entire STEP framework into Mandarin.

Rob delivered a knowledge share to representatives of both the CMN and CMC HR Organisations on talent management and recruitment practices and participated in the graduation ceremony of our recent CMC secondees.

The STEP program was a great success with the participants learning vital tools and behaviours that will help them to succeed in their careers now and into the future.
