Signing of the agreement will benefit more than 9 thousand inhabitants of 8 communities.

Eight communities and a total of 9,000 people will benefit from a S/3 million Minera Las Bambas local investment. In late March Las Bambas and the Velille district signed an agreement that will see the mining company deliver a local community support program. The school population will benefit from information communications technology approved by The Ministry of Education. In addition, Velille’s health care will benefit from a medical campaign and two ambulances.

“We have marked an important milestone in the development and progress of the Velille district, based on the constructive dialogue fostered between local authorities,” said Edgardo Orderique, General Manager of Minera Las Bambas operations.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Jaime Gálvez, welcomed the agreement and the contribution that mining and resources bring to the State, local populations and the country’s economic development. “I congratulate everyone for this important achievement, the successful outcome  of dialogue between Las Bambas and the Velille district,” he said.

“My district and Las Bambas are setting an outstanding precedent, thanks to the joint work between local and national authorities, the population and the mining company. The signing of the agreement is a very satisfactory outcome for Velille,” said Antonio Toledo, Mayor of the municipality of Velille.

The signing of the inter-institutional cooperation agreement is a tangible sign that Velille, the State and Las Bambas are determined to work together, promoting the local district’s sustainable development goals.
