MMG Dugald River has teamed up with the Dugald River Social Club to support the Centacare North Queensland (NQ) Pack-a-pencil case initiative, ensuring local children can go to school with the supplies they need to participate and engage with their education.

The Pack-a-pencil case initiative falls under the School Savvy NQ program that aims to provide school resources for children and families in need of assistance. Items may include new or pre-loved uniforms and essential stationery supplies. They are made available through pop up stores at the start of the new school year in Townsville, Burdekin, and Cloncurry.

“MMG Dugald River Mine and the Dugald River Social Club are proud to collaborate, and support the initiative with a combined six thousand dollar deposit for the purchase of pre-filled pencil cases, to help the children of the north west get quality return-to-school supplies,” said Nick Johnson, Coordinator Communities MMG Dugald River.

“Getting children ready for a new school year can be a struggle for many families experiencing financial hardship. This is an opportunity where we can make a real difference.”

MMG Dugald River Mine is committed to aligning itself with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, and believes in equitable quality learning and education. School Savvy’s sustainable approach to reduce waste, reuse and recycle school uniforms and supplies to help students makes this a perfect partnership.
