At MMG we are committed to supporting local suppliers develop sustainable businesses to supply our operations, as well as other customers locally and globally.

Where possible, we aim to source products and services from local suppliers who are able to meet our key selection criteria in safety, environment, quality, technical, social responsibility and commercial viability. Where gaps are identified, we assist local suppliers to meet our standards and support them in building their capability. This process enables them to take up future opportunities to grow their businesses and expand their offering to customers beyond MMG.

As a relatively new operation, Dugald River has been seeking opportunities to improve their local procurement strategy and develop sustainable supply options in their host communities. As part of this work, the Dugald River Supply team undertook an engagement and identification process in 2019 with local suppliers. The site interviewed 37 local suppliers in Cloncurry and established supply agreements with 23, based on identifying some capability which they could offer MMG.

These changes in the site’s approach to local supply, as well as increased opportunities due to the site ramp up and moving into operation during the period, resulted in near-mine spend increase from US$4.3 million in 2018 to US$38.6 million in 2019. It is also allowed the site to reinforce its commitment to its host communities and contribute to the continued development of north-west Queensland.

Dugald River invites established local businesses to contact them and become registered in the site’s database of suppliers for participation in future tender processes. If you are a business in Cloncurry or Mount Isa and are interested, please contact DugaldRiverCSP@MMG.COM.
